Solo Exhibitions/ Installations/Boston Printmakers Biennial 2017,2019

Since 2007 I have had several solo exhibitions and have created installations of prints and woodblocks that have been incorporated into these showings of my work.

Associative Miscellancy has been presented in different environments and is an installation comprised of printed elements and wire structures that reference vanishing pollinators, most specifically bees and hummingbirds. Depending on the size and shape of the space I am working in, various elements are put together, in a dimensional collage that is built on the walls using rare earth magnets and thumbtacks to attach the prints without damage to the paper. The whole installation can be rolled up into a large tube and a large portfolio, due to the flexibility of the Japanese paper I have printed on.

My carved woodblocks are also elements of another type of installation. The blocks are my printing tools but are also crafted works art in themselves, and afford a modicum of understanding of the printmaking process when they are viewed in conjunction with prints. The exhibition of 25 of my wood blocks at Phillips Andover Academy in 2017 led to the creation of the Wood Block Index Project.

My most recent installation piece was also exhibited at Phillips Andover in the same show. It was a wall-sized compilation of woodblock prints of medieval beehives in different sizes. I had created several blocks of varying heights of these iconic bee structures called skeps, which were made of rushes and lashed together to form a structure, which housed the hive of bees. The piece is four separate collaged print pieces that can be attached to the wall and together measure 96”.
